This Department provides the necessary legal support to the C.V.R.V.V. and its associates.

Among its duties, the Department is responsible for the following:

1. Legal assessment of labels
   1. pre-assessment of new brands
   2. assessment of designs for new labels to determine their compliance with national and EC regulations
   3. answer requests for information from the public

2. Defend authors' rights and copyrights
   1. safeguard, both domestically and internationally, the denominations of origin for which the CVRVV is responsible, namely "Vinho Verde", "Aguardente de Vínho da Região dos Vinhos Verdes" and "Aguardente Bagaceira da Região dos Vinhos Verdes"
   2. act on behalf of the CVRVV against brands (domestic or foreign) that, due to their nature, may be considered as misleading or pose a risk to the good name of the Vinho Verde denomination of origin

3. Maintain current files on national and EC legislation

4. Render legal assistance to the several CVRVV departments
   1. prepare legal opinions and information
   2. examine and draft contracts
   3. participate in working committees
   4. render assistance to the Board of Directors
